SIGN OUR REMOTE LEARNING PETITION
Westchester Children’s Association and our Remote Learning Workgroup of school districts, children’s advocates, and community organizations have joined together to ensure that all Westchester children and their families are able to participate fully in remote learning. This petition strives to promote equity — especially race equity — and close the digital divide that persists in our county. We recognize that long before the pandemic, resources — for school districts and families — were and still are unequal.
By signing onto this petition, I, (a) express my support for this topic and (b) call on our elected officials, decision-makers, and telecommunications companies to adopt policies for immediate and long-term change for the following priority areas:
Priority Area 1: Technology & Internet Access
Goal: Collaborate with local and state stakeholders and companies to expand adequate and affordable internet as an essential utility for all school-age children and expand access to adequate computers, digital-literacy training, and technical support.
Priority Area 2: Remote Learning Support Services
Goal: Expand remote learning accommodations for students (including students with special education needs) as well as quality training for parents and guardians who are using remote learning for their children.
Priority Area 3: Mental Health
Goal: Expand screening, professional counseling, and support services for teachers, students, and caregivers to address the mental health, social and emotional impact of prolonged isolation and remote learning.
For further details see our Remote Learning Advocacy Agenda to create lasting change to support children and families.
